Where do you stay in London?
All over the place. I've stayed at The Lanesborough. It has that historical aspect that I like: it's discreet, the rooms are modern, but it has that classic English style. I also like the Charlotte Street Hotel.

What advice would you give a tourist?
Go to Shoreditch. The whole area is interesting and happening. There are a lot of creative types, and they have an interesting style; everybody is different and unique. Coming from New York, it's nice to go to another country and see what the cool kids are doing, what they're wearing and what they're listening to.

Have you been away recently?
I haven't had a holiday in a while because I've been filming since March. I went to San Diego in July to promote Iron Man 2. I'd never been there before; it was very nice. I travel a lot for work so I normally end up staying on for a vacation. I went to Madrid and Milan earlier in the year. I like the landmarks but I'm not the kind of traveller who hits every museum and goes on tours; I prefer to walk around and people-watch.

What was the last play you saw in London?
Frost/Nixon. I really liked it, but it was a long time ago.

Which is your favourite London restaurant?
I like The Wolseley. It's busy and has a New York vibe. E&O in Notting Hill is really good, too.

What is your favourite London discovery?
High tea. It's such a novelty for us. I like to go for tea at the Covent Garden Hotel; it's beautiful inside.

What is your favourite view of London?
The Mary Poppins view from the roof terrace at Soho House looking over the rooftops and theatres.

Which is your favourite London street?
Soho is beautiful to walk around. London is such a walking city. Even if you don't have a destination, you can just stroll around, find a café and get an espresso.

Where do you like to shop?
Liberty and Dover Street Market. Portobello has some nice stalls. There's the Sonia Rykiel shop in Mayfair. And I love the aesthetic of Vivienne Westwood. It's absolutely hers and there's an Englishness about her designs that is interesting.
