Last play you saw?

Let the Right One In at the Apollo, which was excellent. Before that I saw Twelve Angry Men at the Garrick. Luckily we’re friends with the West End producer Bill Kenwright, so he invites us to his shows. We like serious theatre, though, not so much musicals and comedies.

Earliest London memory?

I was born in Croydon so I’ve known London all my life. My earliest memory is from primary school when they gave us a task of ticking off the famous monuments in London. My father drove me around on a Sunday and we visited all the city’s sights.

Favourite shops?

I get my suits made at Apsley, a tailor on Pall Mall. If not, I tend to wear Ermenegildo Zegna or Canali — I like Italian clothes. We’ve done a lot of shopping in Harrods over the years, most of all because of my Fulham days and Mohamed Al Fayed [who owned the store and the football club]. For shoes I like Fratelli Rossetti on New Bond Street and Church’s on Brompton Road. I buy my ties from Drake’s on Clifford Street.

Best meal?

For traditional food I like to go to The Goring hotel and for Italian I go to Lucio on Fulham Road and Arturo on Connaught Street. I also like Browns and Simpson’s.

Biggest extravagance?

Clothes. I’m quite happy to spend money on good clothes and elegant watches.

What would you do as Mayor for the day?

We recently spent a few days in Bordeaux where there is a very impressive tram service, which makes the city virtually pedestrian-only. It’s easy to travel by tram, so in an ideal world I would love to see that kind of means of public transport expanded here.

Best place for a nightcap?

I don’t really do nightcaps but I’d consider going to The Garrick Club with a friend who’s a member.

Who are your heroes?

Really the sporty ones from my boyhood, like the England player George Eastham and the striker Johnny Byrne.

Building you’d most like to buy?

A nice Georgian house, ideally on one of the better squares. I certainly wouldn’t be tempted to buy Buckingham Palace.

Favourite discoveries?

I love the Church of the Immaculate Conception Farm Street, by a little garden just off Mount Street — it’s very interesting to visit. I also love London’s bridges, especially Albert Bridge and Tower Bridge. I rather like Battersea Park, too.

Do you have a lucky watch you wear for games?

I tend to mix them up, but for matches I like to wear my King Power watch because it’s a bit bigger. For the World Cup I’ll be wearing Hublot’s King Power 66 Hodgson, which has been specially designed in my honour and commemorates the year that England won.
