Everything you need to know about Triumph’s new Rocket 3

According to the new specifications, as Triumph unveiled the machine this week, the 2,500 cc engine produces 167PS at 6,000rpm. It also boasts highly eye-catching new exhaust headers for a more macho ‘soundtrack’, twin LED headlights, hidden folding pillion footpegs and stylish 20-spoke aluminium wheels with a big 240mm rear tyre.

Importantly, the newcomer is 40kgs (13 per cent) lighter, but has a higher specification list, including TFT instruments, Optimised Cornering ABS and traction control for safety, four riding modes (rain, road, sport and rider-configurable), hill hold control, cruise control, keyless ignition and heated grips (heated grips being an option on the R).

As if that wasn’t enough, there are over 50 dedicated new Rocket 3 accessories for extra comfort, style or security, while other elements catching Rocket fans’ attention include a new ’torque assist’ hydraulic clutch for a light clutch action, and a six-speed helical-cut gearbox designed to be smoother, stronger and lighter, allowing for the increased torque of the new generation bike.

The single-sided swingarm, with offset monoshock suspension is a particularly striking feature of the new bike, as are the new, internally wired handlebars; roadster-style for the R, touring-orientated ‘bars for the GT.

So that riders can get just the right position, mid-foot controls on the Rocket 3 R have two vertical position settings, while the Rocket 3 GT offers feet-forward foot controls with three horizontal position choices and a height adjustable pillion backrest. The all-important pricing - believed to be in the range of £19,500 - will be confirmed in September.
