No history, 180,000 miles, 360bhp, £2000… The good thing is that there’s literally nothing that could go wrong.

Would you buy a car with 180,000 miles on the clock and next to no service record?

Let’s put it another way. This Audi S8 has 360bhp and a 5.5-second sprint time. It might have no service record and a bit of a monster mileage, but the guy selling it says it has no engine or gearbox problems.

And, let’s cut to the chase, he only wants £2000 for it.

So. Would you buy a car with 180,000 miles on the clock and next to no service record? Thought so.

Now, there was a time when S8s were so common at this price that you could practically treat one as a disposable toy. Which is what seems to have happened to most of them.

So this is a throwback, or a rarity. It’s also an S8 with a sports exhaust, so get to work with your right foot and play that V8 like a musical instrument.

Said exhaust looks like evidence of someone spending a quid or two on this Audi, as do refurbished alloys with new Goodyears at each corner. We all know what refurbished alloys could be hiding, though, so you wouldn’t want to take the plunge without listening very carefully for tell-tale noises in the suspension and driveline.

Enough of that, though. Yes, you could buy this car and it could bite your backside right off. But at least you’re only gambling a couple of large on it – and if the worst comes to the worst, you could probably break it for more.

Some old ‘uns, you just know they’re going to be mingers. This S8 keeps knocking on our door, though. Someone’s going to have a hilarious time finding out why…
