Range Rover Sentinel review

The metal used is super-high-strength steel, while the windows have multi-laminated bulletproof armour privacy glass. So what are we talking here in terms of protection?

The vehicle can withstand direct hits from 7.62mm high-velocity, armour-piercing incendiary rounds. From the sides it can withstand 15kg of TNT going off. Even the roof and floor can withstand DM51 grenade explosions without compromising the integrity of the interior, although you might spill your drink.

The vehicle is being built by Land Rover’s SVO division, and they’ve thought of everything.

There’s an anti-tamper exhaust, the fuel tank is self sealing, there’s an auxiliary battery with split-charge system and there are some options like a loudspeaker to communicate directly with those nasty people outside, as well as a siren and a fire-suppression system under the bonnet.

Powering all this is the 3.0-litre supercharged V6 engine from the Jaguar F-Type, with its 335bhp feedling through the ZF eight-speed auto box.

The Sentinel can run on its 20in split rims even if the tyres have been shredded flat.

The Sentinel is available for order now, with a guide price of about €400,000.

For that you get the vehicle, and a full training course for the driver plus annual visits by specialist technicians.

It’s envisaged that the export markets will be where most sales will be. Although rush-hour M25 argy-bargy would never be the same again.
