Presenting...Tesla Model X

At heart this is another Tesla, which means avant-garde styling, two electric motors and some of the technical wizardry you’d find on the Model S. Low in the chassis are two electric motors, powered by a 90kWh battery pack. The front electric motory has 255bhp and the one at the rear has 496bhp, and that combines to equal 714lb ft of torque. Those are immense figures, and top speed is limited to 155mph.

There will be two versions of the car and the higher-performance model, known as the Ludicrous model, will be able to take the P90D to 60mph from standstill in just 3.2sec. Tesla say the range will be 250 miles.

This is helped in part by a drag coefficient of just 0.24, making it the most aerodynamically efficient SUV on the market – and with all-electric power, doubtless one of the most silent. This is impressive given that this is a seven-seater. Access is obviously easier thanks to those fancy Falcon doors, and the whole interior has high-tech infotainment and climate control systems.

There are 17 speakers dotted round the interior, and the cabin’s air filtering system ensures the air quality is ‘medical grade’ even if outside you’re in the smog of LA. There are also two ‘boots’, one at each end, for maximum storage and practicality.

There will be a raft of safety systems on board, and of course upgrades can be done remotely so you don’t have to do anything. In the UK prices are expected to start around £65,000.
