Porsche 911 gets a facelift

The updated model now has a 3.0-litre flat six petrol engine with twin turbos, boosting the power to 365bhp at 6500rpm.

That’s for the Carerra model, in the Carerra S that rises to 414bhp and 369lb ft of torque. That can give the Carerra model a consumption figure of 38.1mpg compared to the earlier model’s 34.4mpg.

That’s with the fitment of the seven-speed PDK dual-clutch auto box, which is an option along with a seven-speed manual transmission. This allows a 0-62mph time of 4.2sec or 3.9sec in the Carerra S. Top end is a mighty 183mph (191mph for the S) with the optional Sport Chrono package.

That package also allows fine tuning of the dampers and throttle maps, with a switch on the steering wheel to cycle through Normal, Sport, Sport Plus and individual driving modes. This all works with the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) which is now standard fitment.

From the outside, some of the changes are clearly visible. Lights at both ends are new and the air ducts can now open and close to steer airflow accurately. A new air vent at the rear ensures cooling air now goes to the engine, intercoolers and the turbochargers.

On the inside there’s a new multimedia system which can handle Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto, and of course sat-nav is standard. Standard too is post-collision braking and there will be the option of four-wheel steering as on the 911 Turbo.

Prices will start at £76,412 for the Carerra and £85,857 for the Carerra S cabriolet versions. Both cabriolet and coupé versions will be available from launch, with the coupé prices being, respectively, £85,253 and £94,698. Vehicles should be in showrooms in December.
