The extra sense of security which dash cameras provide is gaining a greater hold these days, and now in America some manufacturers are incorporating dash cams into after-sales rear-view mirrors.
I recently tested the Mio C300 dash cam, which at £79.99 was really an entry-level product. The Mio MiVue 766 costs £139.99 but has a larger screen and touchscreen facility. Like the C330, it operates automatically when you start the engine, but is it worth the extra money when it does basically the same job?
The answer is yes. Good as the C330’s picture quality is, the 766’s is even better, using a Sony IMX323 sensor with 140-degree view, and the touchscreen system is more user-friendly.
It also has another benefit. The C330 constantly pipes up in a tinny US accent, “Drive carefully. Speed camera ahead”. Useful advice, of course, but with the preponderance of speed cameras it gets annoying. The 766 contents itself with a series of bongs when you are approaching a camera. Far easier to live with.
