Borgward has confirmed that a plug-in hybrid system is being developed, so at least one model will have electric power. Reports also suggest the availability of all-wheel drive and a new dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Connectivity will be a big selling point, with a bespoke Multiple Interaction interface said to “change the way you think about the car”.
The company’s president Karlheinz Knöss has high ambitions for the firm’s relaunch. “We want to become one of the top players in the automotive industry,” he said.
The manufacturer will be focusing on European and emerging markets, aiming to deliver 800,000 vehicles each year by 2020. After that, the ambition is to manufacture 1.6 million cars annually by 2025.
