Ah, Italia! With Milan Fashion Week recently done and dusted, there’s no better time to take inspiration from the country of spaghetti, Sophia Loren and ultimate style.

‘The Italian look is so unique with such powerful heritage it hits you straight in the heart,’ says Forest Hill-based interior designer Russell Whitehead.

‘It’s luxurious but with a contemporary edge. I think of it as a restrained opulence.’

Italy is also home to some of the most interesting designers and homeware labels around: keep an eye out the sleek glasswork of Vicenza-based designer Massimo Lunardon, whose mouth-blown cup and saucer is perfect for an after-dinner canarino, while Porada, known for its sophisticated woodwork, has been a byword for Continental chic ever since the 1940s.
