Hammersmith. I live on a lovely quiet street. It is essential to get away from the bustle.

Last play you saw?

Singin’ in the Rain at the Palace Theatre. I loved it for the dancing but disliked it because it’s a theatre that lacks leg room.

Best place for a first date?

A film and meal at the BFI and then a stroll along the South Bank.

Most romantic thing someone’s done for you?

Worryingly, I can’t think of anything spectacular. Someone romance me immediately!

Favourite shops?

As Nature Intended to keep healthy foodwise, Raoul’s deli on Hammersmith Grove for naughty treats, Selfridges to kill all clothes-shopping birds with one stone, Westfield as it’s very near me and has a Wagamama for when flagging from shopping, and MenKind for ridiculous gifts and props for my show.

Where do you go to let your hair down?

Home. I have friends over, drink champagne for no good reason, have luxury snacks and either watch some good telly or put on some cheesy music and, what I call, bop.

First thing you do when you arrive home?

Walk along the Chiswick towpath and over Hammersmith Bridge.

Which building would you like to buy?

Theatre Royal Haymarket, so I could live in a flat at the top and put on plays and revues, and live like a stereotypical thespian; there might be kaftans and gin.

What would you do as Mayor?

Insist that all commuters gallop.

Favourite pub?

My local. Comforting and, put simply, my local. I’m not telling you its name, it’s MINE!

Earliest memory?

I was probably about 13 and I remember Mum and Dad taking me to the theatre and being in awe wandering around the West End. I remember seeing a Stage Door sign and knowing I wanted to be an actress. The thrill has never left me.

Best thing a London cabbie has said to you?

‘You’re quite funny for a woman.’

Biggest extravagance?

Holidays. I’m not that interested in cars, clothes or jewels.

Favourite discoveries?

I love discovering new squares and gardens where I can sit peacefully. The Japanese garden in Holland Park is good for that.

Who do you call to have fun?

I have a great group of girlfriends who make me laugh.

Ever had a run-in with a policeman?

I have literally run into one, but I’ve never had a run-in with one.

Which is your favourite charade at Christmas?

Gone with the Wind because the final word is fun to do.

Describe your Christmas Day outfit...

Fluffy red and white bed socks, a massive onesie, and a Santa hat.

Which building would you like to be locked in overnight?

Harrods, first the Food Hall, then the pet department — I’d let them run riot all over the store — and lastly the toys. Oh, the larks!

Best piece of advice you’ve been given?

A friend paraphrased a verse from the Bible: ‘You do not have a spirit of timidity but one of power and love so be brave and follow the path of your heart’s desire.’

Best place for a nightcap?

Work recently has meant lots of early nights but when I start venturing out, then a mojito at a boutique Soho hotel would be nice. Dean Street Townhouse, perhaps.

Last album you downloaded?

Christmas with Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra.

At the moment you are...

Trying not to get nervous about the third series of my sitcom.

Who’s your hero?

Eric Morecambe, because he was the funniest comedian of all time and a true entertainer.

What’s top of your Christmas wish list?

A Kindle with books I should have read on it. I’m keen to read more. I watch too much TV!
