TANTASTIC
Being from the North East, my main fear in having my first spray tan was that I would be mistaken for one of the primates in MTV's Geordie Shore. I was booked in with the Tantalist, aka James Read, tanner to the stars. He's sprayed them all: Lady Gaga to Hugh Jackman. I reckon I was a slight anticlimax. Agua Spa at Sanderson is a utopia of cascading white drapes and high ceilings. As I waded through the endless pleats of curtain, searching for the men's changing room, I resembled a small child trying to change a duvet cover. Once robed up, I was led to the waiting room, a haven of chaises longues, water features and gentle harp music. If Heaven had a spa, this would be it. Once in the treatment room, I stripped down to my boxers and James talked me through the various poses as he sprayed me with his own formula, the James Read Salon Mist, which gives a deeper tan that lasts for about eight days and looks incredibly natural. The following day I returned to James to have a Sculpting Tan. There was something on Dragon's Den recently involving a six-pack stencil, but it turns out this was more to do with shading and defining existing muscles naturally. Unfortunately, I had forgotten to bring my muscles with me, so the Tantalist had to work his magic yet again, this time managing to create some definition around my pecs and biceps, though I think my keg was a challenge too far. Overall, we were both thrilled with how natural my tan looked.
