Wisteria hysteria: 28 photos of London’s incredible wisteria in bloom

Right now, some of London’s most beautiful residences and parks are awash with the sweet smelling flowers of wisteria and there’s not an Instagram account that’s not noting it.

Traditionally native to China, Korea, and Japan, the creeping plant blooms from early to mid-spring and the flowers typically last three to four weeks, depending on the variety. As well as purple, you can also get white, pink, blue and green but after planting, you’ll have to wait three to four years to see floral results. The stems can actually reach up to 10 meters if they enjoy sufficient sun.

This year, West Londoners have been particularly spoilt, with wisteria twining its way around the smart white stuccoed villas of Kensington and the mews houses of Notting Hill.
