Engines are a 130PS 1.5-litre petrol with optional “stepped” seven-speed CVT auto gearbox, or a 120PS 1.6-litre diesel, which is the better option if your mileage justifies it. Especially in CVT form, the petrol engine screams like a fishwife when confronted with a hill, and even in six-speed manual form the motor sounds quite gruff and overworked.
Neither engine feels particularly gutsy but the diesel is more refined and torquier. In its most economical form, Honda claims combined mpg of 70.6, although in our hands it only managed 53.3.
Like many Hondas, this is a well made but rather underwhelming car, which buyers will probably appreciate rather than love.
