“We spend a lot of time building our digital identities so why not use them in the real world?” says Vaccari.
The app is proving a hit in the capital. “We’ve already found London is our second most popular city after San Francisco, and people are using it at dinner parties to find interesting people to talk to. We want to reveal the hidden connections at a party, in a bar or even while shopping.”
Glancee is set to battle a similar app, Highlight, this week at the SXSW interactive festival in Austin, Texas, which was previously the launchplace for Twitter, and experts say the “social discovery” apps are set to be the next big thing.
So watch out — when someone whips out their mobile at a dinner party, it may actually be to find the most interesting person there, rather than simply boring everyone rigid by showing off the latest holiday snaps.
