These DIY Netflix socks will pause your movie if you fall asleep

We’ve all been there – one minute, you’re on your sixth episode of Daredevil, the next minute you're woken up by the sun shining through the window and it’s the next morning.

It's the Netflix curse, and it happens to all of us, but there is now a solution to this common problem, and the answer lies within a very special pair of socks.

The team at Netflix have published a DIY guide to creating a pair of Christmas-themed "smart" socks capable of detecting when you've fallen asleep while binging on your favourite TV shows. If that happens, whatever you were watching will automatically pause so you won’t lose your place.

It does so by using an accelerometer to measure your inactivity. If it doesn't sense any movement, an LED light flashes in an attempt to alert you - and if there is still no response, your show will instantly pause.

There is one downside- you have to assemble the socks yourself. However Netflix have provided a detailed step-by-step instructions to help you transform the way you watch your favourite Netflix shows forever.
