London’s best: Photoswap apps

Those poor chaps at Eton have been cut off from photo-swapping app Snapchat over fears that it could be used for sexting. The app may have been banned from the school’s wi-fi network but students shouldn’t fear — here are the top five Snapchat alternatives.

Wink!

Claiming to be everything you love about Snapchat and Instagram, Wink! shares photos with the friends you choose, without having to log into your Facebook or Twitter account. You can also upload and send photos you’ve taken before.

Take a photo or video and send to friends — but they can only view it for five seconds. This app also lets you know how many pictures you’ve shared — according to Clipchat, the more the better.

Declaring itself “chat gone wild”, Squawk is making instant messaging a bit more fun. Personalise your chats and you can set all messages to self-destruct after view. You can even send voice messages.

Facebook Poke

You need a Facebook account to use it, and can only send pictures to FB friends. And you can only view pictures for up to 10 seconds.

Wickr

Taking self-destructive messaging to a new level, Wickr lets you send texts, photos and video messages, which of course are destroyed after a small amount of time. Wickr also collects no personal data from you, for the more security conscious of app users.
