I’m in my forties and have just starting seeing a 30-year-old. What should I wear?

Here’s a rule of thumb for dressing age-appropriately. In your twenties: shock. In your thirties: chic. In your forties: cheque. There is a happy medium between trying too hard and not trying hard enough. Avoid trend-led youth stores such as Topman, H&M and Jack Wills and look instead at COS, J Crew and Sunspel for basics, and Paul Smith, Incotex and John Smedley for an updated capsule wardrobe of high-quality pieces (cashmere knits, chinos, chambray button-downs) in a complementary colour palette of navy, light blue, white, grey, khaki and tan. Now you only need to worry about what on earth she’s wearing.
