Birkenstocks: yes or no?
This question irks me because in a wardrobe clear-out 18 months or so ago, I threw away my ten-year-old Birkenstock Arizonas, thinking they’d never come back in. This summer, with the rise of ‘normcore’ (self-aware stylised blandness is the new cool, apparently), functional sandals are all the rage. At Glasto last weekend the ‘kidz’ were wearing Teva walking sandals. Personally, my go-to summer shoe is a pair of Rivieras in navy blue (above, £50) — comfortable mesh slip-ons that keep my feet cool and my football-ravaged toes hidden from view.
