There are a few tricks to dressing ‘up’. Wear darker colours on the bottom half so the eye travels upwards. Keep everything in proportion: lapels, collars and ties should be narrow and jackets short. Avoid turn-ups and wear socks the same colour as your trousers to give the appearance of longer legs. Get garments altered so you’re not swamped in fabric. At the high end look at Burberry (Eddie Redmayne, above, is a fan), The Kooples or Dolce & Gabbana. On the high street, try Uniqlo, Zara or COS. But really it’s more about attitude than altitude.
