Waistcoats: yes or no?
Well, that depends. If we’re talking as part of a well-tailored three-piece suit from Hackett (above), Richard James or Thom Sweeney, then I’m all for it. A waistcoat requires a slightly higher suit trouser because you shouldn’t see any shirt poking through at the bottom. If you’re thinking of wearing a waistcoat on its own with, say, jeans, then think again. Worn more casually a waistcoat can look a bit snooker player/waiter/boyband/naff. I’d lump waistcoats in with bow ties: some men can look cool in them; most don’t. The odds are not in your favour.
