How do I stop my jeans fading?
Aficionados say you should wait as long as possible — six months or more — before washing raw indigo-dyed jeans. That way, when you do wash them, they’ll be a bespoke work of art that will fit perfectly with all the whiskering in the right places. Spot-clean any stains and air them in the meantime. (Some people put them in the freezer to nuke bacteria/stink.) When you can wait no longer, soak them inside out in a tepid bath with one capful of detergent. Do not scrub or wring. Hang them straight to dry and wear while still slightly damp to shape them.
