This florist is transforming New York streets with his stealth arrangements

Since October 2016, he has been filling dark metal bins around the city with colourful blooms, as if they were giant vases.

Lewis Miller told the Evening Standard: “I started these flashes because I felt the need to give the people of New York the gift of flowers. I love bringing nature into the homes of my clients, it is one of life's greatest luxuries. My trash can flashes are an extreme version of this idea. It's the wild and raw abundance of the country popping up in this gorgeous yet grimy city in a very unexpected and beautiful way."

“I love the high-low quality of the trash can flashes," Miller added. "The pink arrangement on East 12th Street, that garbage can was filled with azalea branches, peonies and a clutch of delicate Japanese ranunculus, one of the most expensive flowers you can buy. These flashes are raw and bold, they are lovingly imperfect. A lot like New Yorkers, themselves. “

The design studio dropped its most recent flash last week on the Upper East Side where Madison crosses 90th street.

The florist has also used his art to transform different monuments around the city, including the John Lennon Memorial in Centra Park. He and his team descended on the site before dawn, armed with 2,000 flowers to create a circular mosaic resembling a mandala, with just one word in the centre: IMAGINE.

The team has also added a 30 foot floral boa of pink and red roses to the Alice in Wonderland Statue in Central Park.

Fingers crossed London's bins are given a similar makeover soon.
