Home is…

West Hampstead. I grew up in a small village called Gamlingay in Cambridgeshire so it’s the closest I can get to a village atmosphere.

Last play you saw?

Peter Pan Goes Wrong at the Pleasance Theatre. It’s by a load of guys I was at LAMDA with and it’s a big farce about a terrible theatre company putting on a show where everything goes wrong. It’s genius.

Best meal you’ve had?

I’m learning to cook at the moment so I’m not eating out much. I’m not making great progress, though; I tried to do a Sunday roast recently and my friends took one look at it and ordered Domino’s.

First thing you do when you come back to London?

I catch a Tube and read the paper over someone’s shoulder.

Favourite shops?

I’m such a guy when it comes to shopping. If I can avoid going into a shop, then I will and if I do go into any of the big department stores, I get very flustered and tend to walk straight out.

Building you’d like to live in?

The Imperial War Museum. I find it quite therapeutic.

Favourite discovery?

Hampstead Cemetery, where I learn all my lines. It’s huge and completely hidden away so I can get away with looking like a nutter talking to myself.

What would you do as Mayor?

My pet hate is people spitting in the street so I’d ban that.

Biggest extravagance?

I’ve recently got my first eBay account and I’ve discovered the downside of slightly drunk eBaying. I bid on something to test it out and ended up with a motorbike.

Favourite pub?

The Salt House on Abbey Road. It’s a good old-fashioned boozer that stocks loads of local brews such as Camden Pale Ale.

Earliest London memory?

As a kid I used to read a lot about The Blitz, so the first time I came to London I was terrified of going on the Tube.

Best thing a cabbie said to you?

I’d been filming in a very Christian part of the southern US and on my return a cabbie used the c-word to describe someone in an endearing way. It made me happy to be back.

Who do you call when you want to have fun?

I live with my best mate, who is also an actor, and he’s usually up to something. We met on my first job for the Disney Channel when I was 18.
