Three weeks later, Blow asked Issie to marry him. She said yes. Their wedding, in the medieval grandeur of Gloucester Cathedral, was a theatrical affair, orchestrated, of course, by Issie, who for this occasion modelled herself on Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine, wearing a violet dress, a Philip Treacy wimple, and a pair of pointed silver shoes by Manolo Blahnik. Looking back, though, there were already harbingers of doom. Issie's brother-in-law Duggie, the husband of her younger sister, Lavinia, had been killed in a freak accident on a motorway just two months before.
