These prosthetic limbs are so realistic you won’t be able to tell what’s real and what’s not

A company in Mexico is creating the most realistic looking prosthetics and it’s impossible to tell what's a genuine body part and what’s not.

Founded in 2005, Dianceht, produces custom made limbs that take days to create.

Each patient is bought in for a consultation and the area they require a prosthetic is measured. All the creations - which range from toes to ears, hands to noses - are made from silicone and hand painted. Veins and freckles are added as a final touch to add authenticity.

The prosthetics function in one of two ways depending on where they’re required. Models of fingers, hands and toes are placed via suction, however, for more complicated areas like ears, where there’s nothing for it to attach to, it’s placed on with medical glue that lasts seven days and is shower proof. Fingers and toes start at £520, noses or ears are priced around £1000 but the investment can be life changing for patients.

A range of studies have previously shown that low self-esteem and negative body image is common in amputees and those living without certain body parts. Often people have to deal with the psychological stress of losing a limb which can be massive or, if they're born without one, struggle to accept their body as it is. With breakthroughs in new medical research and surgery, the standard of realistic artificial limbs has increased monumentally in recent years - something that Dianceht is clear proof of.
