Next summer's the time for some serious Seventies style

The message from London Fashion Week is clear: next summer heralds the return of a prettier, Seventies-influenced beauty look. From girls lounging on South Beach by day to disco divas by night, spring/summer 2011 beauty will come with a bounce to the hair and a flush to the cheeks. Here's how to create the key looks.

PERFECT SKIN

Beautiful, luminous complexions with gleaming or glittered highlights were everywhere. At Nicole Farhi, make-up artist Charlotte Tilbury created dewy "digitalised skin" using MAC Iridescent Powder in Silver Dusk as a highlighter. At House of Holland, four blushers were blended together for a winsome glow and at Fashion Fringe, L'Oréal Paris 235 Made For Me Natural Lipstick was patted onto lips and cheeks by make-up maestro James Kaliardos.

PASTEL EYES

Feline shapes and smouldering shades were replaced by softer, rounder eyes with a wash of pastel colour — blue at Erdem, yellow popping up at Osman and dusky lilac with a Seventies disco sparkle appearing at Roksanda Ilincic. Meanwhile, make-up artist Val Garland gave us pretty, contemporary eyelids with washes of baby pink, lemon and acid green at Mary Katranzou. Mascara is out (though subtle brown is acceptable) and eyeliner must be pin-thin.

MANNEQUIN TANS

The focus on skin extended to the body with new trends in tanning. At PPQ, tanning maestro James Read created the Mannequin Tan using Fake Bake to take us away from the usual dark tans of summer towards a more chic, porcelain flawlessness. Nailgirl's fleshy-toned nails at Hannah Marshall set the tone for a new obsession with the natural look.

SEVENTIES HAIR

A revolution has happened in hair with the appearance of Seventies-inspired styles that were not curled or waved but kinked. At Felder Felder, stylist Nick Irwin prepped hair with the Tigi Catwalk Curlesque Strong Mousse before creating a large, loose tong. Bardot hair came to the fore at House of Holland with Sebastian Professional Shaper Zero Gravity Spray adding bounce to soft, brushed-out styles, or just have fun with Topshop Unique Disco 'fro.
