Zimmermann's New York Fashion Week show offers high-gloss 70s bohemia

A hedonistic Seventies scene fuelled by sex, drugs and adultery formed the backdrop for Zimmermann’s offering for next summer.

Citing the late Seventies soap Number 96 as the source of inspiration, creative director Nicky Zimmermann looked to her native downtown Sydney during a time of evolution to create a collection of blouson sleeve dresses and luxed up track pants.

Zimmermann’s USP is its breezy socialite-ready cocktail gowns and this collection was weighed down with those but this time they came with a hint rock n roll. Detailed with paisley motifs and chocolate brown appliqué, this was Seventies Bohemia repackaged for a glossy contemporary customer.

Zimmermann's roots are in beachwear and accordingly, this collection had a relaxed . Particularly when it came to suiting with a nylon tracksuit tuxedo hybrid in vibrant teak among the pieces worth writing home about. Low slung linen balloon pants in airy peppermint and shirting trimmed with punchy ric rac also stood out.
