Cut-off denim shorts are cool again for summer

So far this season has been all about statement denim, be it expertly ripped, acid washed, or rainbow coloured.

The only problem with these strong denim trends is what to do once those summer temperatures kick in and it's too hot to be sweating it out in full-length jeans.

The answer is simple — just slash them to thigh-flashing length and, voilà, you have yourself the perfect pair of summer denim shorts.

Obviously, if you have paid out for Balmain denims, you may not be keen to hack them off, so we suggest you tackle an old pair, or head to the high street for ready-made versions.

The cut-off denim short is a perennial summer favourite, so you aren't risking much by having a go yourself or spending about £30 on a pair.

Surprisingly versatile, there are many ways to wear your cut-offs to carve a bit of personality into the look.

Victoria Beckham was spotted in hers last week and, in true Posh style, she was wearing them with high-heeled ankle boots.

A more relaxed approach comes from the equally lean-limbed Gisele, who paired hers with cool gladiators and aviators.

Lindsay Lohan went for cut-offs with Peter Pan boots and vintage tees, while quirky Chloë Sevigny wore hers with ankle socks and loafers.

It goes without saying that a good pair of pins will be an advantage here, so make sure yours are buffed-up, de-fuzzed and bronzed to perfection.
