It’s official, banana bread and sourdough are so lockdown 1.0. The new bake of choice is being hailed as the gloriously gooey cinnamon bun.

The cinnamon bun is a popular Swedish sweet treat made of rolled dough.

Called kanelbullar in Sweden, it is traditionally served at fikas, or coffee parties, a ritual that Swedes religiously break for at around 11am to drink coffee, eat pastries and bond with friends or colleagues.

So fond of their baked goods are the Swedes, that they even have an entire day dedicated to them, October 4 is officially kanelbullens dag or Cinnamon Bun Day.

Fancy having a go?

Instagram blogger  @FitWaffleKitchen, who is known for her minimal ingredient recipes, recently shared a super simple “cinnamon roll in a mug” recipe made in the microwave with two-ingredient dough, that’s racked up over 40,000 likes. You’ll need self-raising flour, Greek yoghurt, butter, sugar, cinnamon, icing sugar and milk.

Use this as the perfect excuse to introduce a Scandi-inspired fika break to your working day - even if you’re doing it over slack.
