My London: Lenny Kravitz

Wherever I am but my main home is in The Bahamas, where my mother’s side of the family is from. I live there with my two dogs, Jojo and Leroy.

What is your London luxury?  

My London luxury is having  a dinner with a group of friends. I’ve always loved  Zuma and then a boat ride down the Thames to the O2 to see a concert.

What’s the best meal you’ve had in London?  

My best meal was when I  went to the Brit Awards ceremony and snuck in a bag  of Jamaican food from a place called Malibu.

Who is the most iconic Londoner in history?

To me it is Jimi Hendrix. Although he was an American, he became a Londoner. He became legendary there and changed the face of the electric guitar and music forever.

What kind of exercise do you do?  

I do a combination of cardio and weight-lifting. I like to ride my bike especially when I am in The Bahamas and I have an outdoor gym made up of dumbbells and bars with plates, which I lift on a bent coconut tree that I use for a bench.

What are you up to at the moment for work?  

I just completed two years of a world tour and am working on the Y campaign for YSL Beauty, another for Saint Laurent, as well as  the release of my memoir, Let Love  Rule.  I’m also in the studio working on two new albums as well as taking on a variety  of design projects, from hotels to private homes, with my design company, Kravitz Design.

 Who do you call when you want to have fun?  

My Bahamian cousin Gerry,  who lives in London.

What do you collect?  

Vintage musical instruments and studio equipment.

Where do you stay in London?  

Blakes,  which is a hotel where I’ve stayed for  many years.

Who’s your hero?  

My grandfather, who came from the Bahamian island of Inagua. He became the man of his household when he was nine and provided for his bedridden mother and four siblings. He went on to have his own family and worked endlessly to make sure my mother had the education and tools to achieve her dreams. All of his work and love has opened the doors for me and my daughter, Zoë.
