Jamie Cullum: This album is my most revealing yet

The singer and pianist, 39, said: “I wanted to make an album reflecting who I was as a person. It’s as much to do with being a parent and being in a relationship with someone who is very open and honest.”

Asked about discussing his personal life, he replied: “I don’t see myself as a closed book but someone who is vulnerable in terms of my relationship because of who I am married to.”

The writing for the album came after Cullum spent a period being a stay-at-home father with daughters Lyra, eight, and Margot, six, in Buckinghamshire.

Despite a home full of instruments and books — Dahl is a former model-turned author — Cullum says they are not pushy parents and are letting their children discover their own interests.

He added: “They are still so young, I am reticent to put any kind of restraint on them. Parents can put so much pressure on their kids, I think you just have to let them figure it out.”

The album title is a cheeky nod to his 5ft 4in height and Dahl being 6ft. “I invited myself to be asked: ‘Do you really want to be taller? Is it a problem for you?’” Cullum said.

Taller is out now. Jamie Cullum plays the London Palladium on March 18 next year,
