You beauty! Nars contour blush and brush

It’s one of those quests — not a very noble crusade, but lifelong nonetheless — to find the best sculpting blusher. Not just a bronzer that glows and ‘hits you where the sun falls’ but a light-ravenous, deadening, chiselling tool that will suck the eye away from the dips below cheekbones and jawline for real trickery.

Well, good things come… because I’ve found both. The new Contour Blushes by Nars are typically elegant, matte, flat little palettes, the larger portion of which is occupied by a deep shade of blush that defines as it warms. The smaller portion is a marvellous lustreless whitish powder that highlights without a hint of artifice or glitter. One goes below the cheekbone, the other above, so you end up with sweepingly magnificent architecture that reads as tan and good bones simultaneously.

A good workwoman credits her tools and, as such, I direct you to Nars’ new range of Artistry Brushes, which features a contouring brush; quite fat but cut at a slanted angle to deliver a slash of cheekbone rather than a stripe of pigment. Nicely weighted, it is notably wieldy and makes it far easier to do a thoroughly good, blended job.

So this lot hit Selfridges in three weeks, which leaves you enough time to perfect the art of fake bones and slimming angles before Easter strikes. Because, in my experience, chocolate hits your face before it settles on your hips.
