Tried and tested blow dries: Gielly Green

What’s the buzz? Gielly Green describes itself as a “haven of luxury”. Lying horizontally in a super-comfy chair, enjoying the longest shampoo and head massage known to womankind, it was hard for me to disagree. This smart George Street salon is busy, swish and a home to ladies who have fabulous handbags. That said, the staff are down-to-earth and quietly friendly, including stylist William who was looking after my blow-dry.

William’s very proud of his wavy hair technique – “I learnt it in Australia, not many people can do it over here” – but given the windy weather outside and my super-fine hair I went for a straight blow-dry. I was pleased. William made my hair look longer than usual and gave it a lovely swooping shape at the sides. Sophisticated, without being overdone – very nice indeed. Happy me, and it got the family seal of approval too.

In the main salon and their blow-dry outpost in Fenwick Bond Street, they use their own brand shampoo and conditioner – their hydrating mask in particular really smoothed out my hair. Whilst the blow-dry bar is for a quick in and out, the main salon also offers a beauty salon where you can get the rest of your body seen to.
