1. Regularly exfoliate your beard area
to release ingrown hairs and clean pores. This provides a smoother surface for the razor, meaning fewer cuts and less skin irritation

2. Shower before shaving
to open pores and soften skin and facial hair, making it easier for the razor to cut each hair

3. Change your blade weekly. A blunt razor requires more passes across the skin to achieve the same closeness of shave – and it is intuitive that the less contact your skin has with razor sharp metal, the better

4. Don’t use too much pressure
. You risk cutting each hair too low which will increase its chances of ingrowing under the skin, creating a bump that your razor may catch on.

5. Shave in the right direction – the same direction as your hair grows. This might mean you change direction for different parts of your face and neck, but if ignored, you’ll find the difficult areas may become irritated as too much pressure is exerted on those hair follicles

6. Always moisturise after shaving. When exfoliating and passing a razor across your face, the top layer of natural oils and moisture is stripped away, leaving your skin unprotected and unbalanced, which can make it dry and irritated. A moisturiser will help rehydrate and protect your skin.
