Review: Hare & Bone

What’s the buzz? I visited just two weeks after this smart salon opened in December 2014 and owner Sam Burnett and his team were already in full flow. Sam’s aim, he says, is to combine high standards with a friendly and relaxed approach and one that also plays to the needs of customer. Hence, then, the Breakfast Blow Dry, an express styling treat nestled amongst the rest of this salon’s full-service menu. It combines a speedy blow-dry with breakfast – two of my favourite things! In my case, breakfast was a delicious wheat-free cookie sourced from a local independent shop, like all of the food that you can chomp here.

Sam says he’s careful to get his ‘best finishers’ on the speedy blow-dry service, which takes 30 minutes to 45 minutes depending on your hair type and the complexity of your desired do (no hair menus here). Sam himself did my hair, offering a couple of suggestions but being very careful to ask what I wanted. I had an outside broadcast that evening, and there’s nothing like two hours outside in the London cold to ruin any hairstyle, so I asked for something uncomplicated that wouldn’t drop too much – no massive hair today, please. Sam said he wanted to work with my layers and movement and used a mix of KMS and Kerastase products to achieve a look that looked nicely done and shaped, but not so done that it was hurtling towards an inevitable collapse. I was pleased with the result and I especially loved how the ends of my hair looked – my layers looked great.
