As London heats up locals cool off in lidos

As temperatures soared to 28 degrees, this week's heatwave has sent Londoners in search of their nearest lido. Photographer Rebecca Reid and reporter Joshi Herrmann join them poolside...

London Fields 11am
Sun lounger: Karim Jean Michel, 36, Tower Bridge, nightclub manager.
In the swim: "It's fabulous - I was here yesterday too. I'm not working in the day at the moment because I work in the evening, so I'm really enjoying it. I originally come from Cannes in France and this is the kind of sun we usually get."

Sun lounger: Naomi Pratt, 25, Stoke Newington, art teacher and painter.
In the swim: "I'm fortunate that this week I'm not teaching many workshops. It's a bit surreal because we've had such rubbish weather and now it's nearly October. Last week we were getting out jackets and jumpers and now we're here. I was brought up by the sea so it reminds me of that."

The Oasis, Covent Garden, 1.30pm
Sun lounger: Daniella Bowen, 23, Victoria, actress.
In the swim: "It's normally quite quiet here but when I arrived there was a queue out of the door so I knew it would be a big day. I'm going to St Lucia soon, but if it's this sunny here I'm going to be really upset."

Sun lounger: Marie Winckler, 21, Kensington, journalist.
In the swim: "There aren't a lot of outside pools in Paris where I am from, so it's pretty nice in this hot weather. It's amazing to be swimming in central London in late September."

Brockwell Lido, 3pm
Sun lounger: Sam Nash, 17, Lewisham, student at BRIT School (for Performing Arts and Technology) in Croydon.
In the swim: "Apparently it's going to be snowing by the end of October, so I'm trying to soak it all up. We had a half day today, so a group of us came down together. It's my birthday this weekend, and everyone's trying to look nice and tanned for my party."

Sun lounger: James Fincham, 25, Camberwell, chef.
In the swim: "I had just set myself up for autumn but I'm not complaining. I was away in Italy last week, so I thought I had had my week in the sun before autumn kicks in, but obviously not."

Tooting Bec, 4pm
Sun lounger: Bambi Thompson, 41, Balham, schoolteacher, and daughter Chloe, four.
In the swim: "I'll take this any day of the week. I picked Chloe up from school and came straight here. Chloe is loving it being back in summer clothes running about and swimming."

Sun lounger: Yasmin Hussain, 22, Camden, student at SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies).
In the swim: "It was a bit of a rubbish summer and I didn't go away much because I'm saving for my Masters, so it's lovely having this. I'm just tanning, catching up with friends, chilling out and enjoying being outside while we still can be. It's a holiday atmosphere here - if you look past the concrete."
