Kiss proof your lips

Leading cosmetics companies now promise lip colour that is more than a match for all those festive smooches. But how many really are kiss-proof?

1 Revlon Colorstay Overtime Lipcolour, £8.99

A passionate kiss under the mistletoe won't pose a problem for this hard-wearing formula. I even managed to get through a threecourse meal without having to reapply. But when it does finally wear off, the colour fades unevenly, leaving lips patchy.

Verdict: 6/10

2 Max Factor Lipfinity Reflections, £9.99

Max Factor has added new shimmery shades to its famous Lipfinity range, just in time for the party season. The long-lasting effects are still unbeatable, while colour glides on smoothly for a lovely, even, moisturised finish.

Verdict: 10/10

3 No 7 Endless Lipcolour, £8

Promises a smooth, even finish but I found it quite drying. Although the colour stayed firmly in place for a few hours, it was lacking in gloss. Fans of matte-finish lipsticks may love it, but if it's a really glamorous party look you're after, you'll be disappointed.

Verdict: 5/10

4 Rimmel Lasting Finish, £3.99

The high-shine colour stayed bright and vibrant, and the rich, creamy texture kept lips soft and moisturised. Not as long-lasting as some more expensive rivals, but excellent value for money.

Verdict: 7/10

5 Maybelline Forever Lip, £5.99

Felt so moisturising, I was sceptical-about its staying power. But its high-shine oils and emollients create rich, glossy colour that looks fantastic and stays put for hours.

Verdict: 9/10

6 L'Oreal Invincible Lipcolour, £7.99

Claims to last up to an impressive eight hours; but, realistically, don't expect to keep your pout in place for longer than two or three. Available in 15 shades, from deep plums to pastel pinks and neutrals, the rich satin-finish formula leaves lips soft, silky and very kissable.

Verdict: 6/10

7 Lancome Lip Dimension, £13.50

The specially designed sponge applicator is difficult to negotiate if you are used to ordinary lipsticks, but the long-lasting effect is smooth and even. I loved the light texture and flattering reflective pigments that add a touch of subtle shimmer to party make-up.

Verdict: 8/10
