Tribute To Karl: The White Shirt Project sees Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne honour late designer Lagerfeld

Cara Delevingne and Kate Moss have recalled their favourite memories of Karl Lagerfeld while designing shirts for a collection in his honour.

The models joined Carine Roitfeld, Tommy Hilfiger and Diane Kruger for Tribute To Karl: The White Shirt Project.

They created their own versions of one of the late Chanel designer’s most beloved styles — the white shirt — to celebrate his legacy. The shirts will be replicated 77 times and sold for €777 (£690) each.

Proceeds will be donated to Sauver la Vie, a charity supporting medical research at the Paris Descartes University.

Moss, who often walked for Chanel in the Nineties, said the creative director was a “generous man”. “I’ll always remember the show fittings at the Chanel atelier,” she said. “One time my mum accompanied me and after, Karl sent us ... to the store and said to pick out what we wanted. My mum couldn’t believe it!”

Delevingne, who modelled frequently for Chanel and walked at his final show, said, “One of my favourite things to do with Karl was to sit with him alone and hear stories about his past. His life was so fascinating.” Her shirt plays on Lagerfeld’s fascination with her tattoos, while Moss’s includes a poem.

Shirts from other famous names, such as Dame Helen Mirren and Cristiano Ronaldo, will go on display at Maison Karl Lagerfeld during Paris Fashion Week before touring Karl Lagerfeld stores.

They will be sold on Karl.com and Farfetch.com from September 26
