If you still wake up with your head beating like an African drum, eat honey, grapes or cherries for breakfast; all are rich in fructose, which helps the body burn off the effects of alcohol more quickly. If you can't stomach solids, try an isotonic sports drink such as Lucozade Sport. But steer clear of black coffee. "Caffeine is the last thing you should be drinking with a hangover," says Louise Sutton, a nutritionist at Leeds Metropolitan University. "It is a diuretic, so it may worsen your already dehydrated state." Fruit is the best cure, says Michael van Straten. "Peel and juice two oranges, one lemon, one lime and one pink grapefruit for a restorative tonic that should be taken for two days after partying," he advises. "Or juice carrots with radishes (to cleanse the liver) and apples, nature's great detoxifiers."
