You love Kylie and Clooney

Kylie Minogue is the ultimate Valentine's Day fantasy date for British men - while women would like to spend the evening with George Clooney, a survey reveals.

The Australian star was the clear winner among more than 11,000 adults polled online, with Liz Hurley second ahead of Nicole Kidman and Kate Winslet.

The over-exposed Jordan came second from bottom in the list of 20 famous women, just two votes ahead of Cate Blanchett, with Jennifer Lopez also near the rear.

British women showed a preference for the more mature man, choosing Clooney ahead of Colin Firth and Pierce Brosnan, followed by Robbie Williams and Sean Connery on almost level pegging. The bottom places were taken by Jamiroquai singer Jay Kay, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jude Law.

The survey of relationship hopes and dreams, by DatingDirect.com, suggests British men don't just go for looks.

While four out of 10 cite appearance as the most important thing in a prospective partner, almost as many (37 per cent) are attracted by personality and 14 per cent are seeking a good sense of humour.

With women, just under 40 per cent were attracted by a man's personality but only 26 per cent named looks as the most important aspect, just ahead of sense of humour (24 per cent).

The survey also found that two thirds of all men (65 per cent) make the effort to send a card on Valentine's Day, compared to 56 per cent of women.

Eight out of 10 people spend up to £35 on Valentine's Day, translating to a potential £1 billion-plus windfall for shops and restaurants.
