Win a celebrity tweet and help quake victims

The world's first global celebrity auction on Twitter, offering bidders the chance to receive a tweet from Victoria Beckham, comedians Stephen Fry and Simon Pegg and Gordon Ramsay, is set to end tomorrow.

The TwitChange auction has already raised more than £140,000 to help an orphanage in earthquake-hit Haiti.

While a classic celebrity auction invites bidders to spend time in person with public figures, the Twitter version offers the online equivalent.

Your chosen celebrity will mention you in a message, re-tweet one of your messages to their followers, and agree to "follow" you on the microblogging site.

Funds from the auction, the brainchild of Shaun King, an Atlanta minister and activist, and backed by Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria, will go to the Miriam Centre, an orphanage for children with autism and cerebral palsy in Bonneau, in the north-west of Haiti. Longoria has now persuaded more than 170 celebrities around the world to join.

"My entire pitch was, all you gotta do is click on the winner and follow," she said. "It's the simplest thing in the world for celebrities."

Longoria currently has a £3,190 bid for her "virtual friendship". Other stars include actress Demi Moore (bidding stands at £2,264) to rappers Snoop Dogg (£142) and MC Hammer (£162). Singer Alicia Keys currently has £1,323 bid on her while Cher has £466.

Bidding on Fry, who is offering to follow his winning bidder on Twitter for a minimum of 90 days and will retweet one of their tweets, and send out a tweet including their @twitterhandle, currently stands at £1,433, while Mrs Beckham has £973 on her.

Pegg has attracted £734 so far, while bids on chef Ramsay currently stand at £654.

The highest bid of £9,951 is currently on Dana White, president of US martial arts contest Ultimate Fighting Championship.
