Wills joins Diana probe

Prince William is to give evidence to detectives probing the death of Princess Diana.

Officers are hoping he will be able to provide them with an insight into his mother's state of mind on the night she died. William spoke to her over the phone hours before the fatal crash in Paris in 1997.

Until now it had been thought Diana's sons would not be involved in the new £2 million inquiry by Scotland Yard which was ordered by the royal coroner.

But officers, who are to interview Prince Charles in the next few weeks, believe it is essential to leave "no stone unturned". Senior sources close to Operation Paget - the codename for the inquiry - say William's statement may be given in writing and then he could be asked follow up questions in an interview.
