I was in my mid-twenties when it happened and, like lots of young women, not quite sure who I was meant to be. I knew I wanted financial independence and a career, and to travel - but there was pressure to look for a partner, too, someone to settle down and have children with. It's a confusing age. I was a freelance writer, seriously into yoga and alternative therapies, and having a ball of a time living in my flat in west London, going out a lot, making friends, when suddenly there it was - an unwanted pregnancy, a time of intense denial and, shortly after, one of the most difficult decisions I've ever had to make.
