Why didn't I get a date?

Seven weeks ago I advertised myself on a billboard as single and looking for love. I have a glamorous job in fashion - I work for Calvin Klein Underwear and am responsible for looking after 20 stores across Europe, which means I travel a lot.

I have a great flat, I earn good money, but at the end of the day I have no one to go home to. I'm a typical thirtysomething career woman who has focused on work but has missed out on meeting a partner.

My last relationship ended a couple of years ago. My boyfriend lived in Dublin and I wanted to stay in London to concentrate on my career.

These days, whenever I see someone I fancy he turns out to be gay. It was my gay best friend, James, who told me about billboard dating. I had nothing to lose.

I come from Ayr in Scotland and am the middle sister of four. I was always the shy one. My dad was a professional footballer with Bradford City - he's a proud man and is always there for me. I guess I'm looking for those qualities in a partner.

I thought I would have loads of responses from the billboard, but I didn't get one reply. I had 18 replies after the Standard followed up my story, though.

Most of them fired off poor one-liners, without their telephone number and didn't even bother sending a picture. And most were well over 50.

A couple caught my attention and I replied, but they never wrote back. I really thought that I would get interesting responses - after all, loads of people use internet and speed dating.

I am really disappointed and needless to say I still haven't been on a date. Is it me or is there something wrong with London men?

Three experts give their opinion of Leeza

The bachelor

Mark Cox, a management consultant, recently voted most eligible bachelor by a woman's glossy magazine:

I am really surprised Leeza didn't get inundated after the ad, but she needs to lighten up about finding Mr Right. She should take pleasure in just meeting guys, without looking at them as husband material.

She needs to concentrate on being herself and not pretending to be something she's not, which is a mistake a lot of girls make. I'm quite shy so although I see girls I like, I rarely make a move. If a girl starts chatting to me, I am really chuffed. I'm sure most men would be flattered if Leeza made a move. She wears a ring on her engagement finger, which would make me think she was spoken for.

Leeza says: I do act myself but I am shy, so I need to learn to communicate better. I wear an 'engagement ring" to stop people asking personal questions but I won't any more.

Sybil Stanislaus, fashion designer and stylist:

A great first-date outfit for Leeza, would be a pair of tight black Seven jeans with kitten heels and a good empire line top that shows a little cleavage to emphasis her femininity. Black looks great on her, but is too severe. Good underwear is crucial and Leeza should definitely wear a body, and invest in some strapless bras. Fitted clothes are out as she is too voluptuous; flowing clothes will make her feel more confident.

High heels are good, as they make her look taller and slimmer. Warm colours such as aubergine and lavender are flattering.

Her hair is lovely and she has a good complexion, so should keep make-up to a minimum, apart from emphasising her eyelashes.

Leeza says: I tend to look quite formal, but the clothes Sybil suggested made me feel sexy and luxurious.

Jenni Trent Hughes, Channel 4's relationship expert:

"There is nothing wrong with Leeza. She's gorgeous, has a winning smile but, like many women in their thirties, she gives out the wrong signals. Leeza is disappointed with her dating history and it shows in her body language. When I looked at Leeza's billboard picture it said, "Bring it on ... but it won't be good enough", and that needs to change. She needs to compromise. Also to smile and flirt more, perhaps practise smiling at strangers.

It's important she remembers that a date is not such a big deal; in the past she has thought of nothing else for days. And she should never talk about her dating history or think about whether he will phone or not before the date has even begun.

If she's enjoyed the evening, she needs to tell him - - don't let him do all the running. And the only people who are going to care about all the manicures she has are her girlfriends."

Leeza says: I know I don't smile enough. Colleagues say that I flirt with people on the phone, so I need to put that into action.
