Experts take a closer look at Posh and explain what her clothes, hair and skin reveal...

Hair

Celebrity hairdresser Richard Ward says: 'Victoria likes to wear hair extensions and this may be because she's found it difficult to grow post-pregnancy, as it tends to thin. But extensions can damage hair that is naturally thinning. I also think that her hair looks too "big", and because she is so slender this has a tendency to give her the "lollipop lady" look, where your head appears too big for your body. Her elfin features would better suit a short style.'

Breasts

Harley Street plastic surgeon Apostolos Gaitanis says:'Victoria denies that she has had breast implants, yet because she is so slender it does seem to me that we can see the outline of them in some photos. Also, she should have much smaller breasts in proportion to her tiny frame if they were natural. It appears to me that she has had implants put into her breasts above the muscle. It is actually better for slim women to have the implant placed below it as this helps hide the outline.'

Weight

Dr Helena Fox, a specialist consultant psychiatrist in eating disorders at the Florence Nightingale Hospital in South London, says: 'Victoria presents an image of a very thin woman. There is a general focus in society on the perfect body. Unfortunately, a diet is the commonest way into anorexia. For people engaging in severe forms of dieting, common problems include a weakened heart and a drop in sex hormone levels which can lead to infertility as ovaries return to their "adolescent state". This in turn has a knock-on effect on bone strength, possibly leading to osteoporosis.'

Jeans

Posh refuses to be prised away from her second-skin jeans, no doubt believing that they create a youthful, rock-chick look. One has to admire her tenacity, but it might be time to try out a different look.

Feet

Dr Peter Snew, President of The British Institute Of Musculoskeletal Medicine and a podiatry expert, says: 'Victoria is rarely seen out of towering stiletto heels and has some unsightly and painful bunions to show for it. Heels force you to walk on tip-toe which squeezes the metatarsals (the small bones made so famous by her husband when he damaged his just before last year's World Cup) and stretches ligaments. They put a strain on your lower back, too.'

Sunglasses

Posh's huge, bug-eyed shades are even more ubiquitous than her too-long hair extensions and tea-bag tan. The sunglasses swamp her features and do nothing for the shape of her face, but in the time-honoured tradition of a true fashion victim, she persists in wearing them anyway.

Face

Plastic surgeon Mr Gaitanis says: 'Victoria's face is very thin and her neck is looking decidedly scraggy and wrinkled. Again, this is because there is little fat to support the skin and there has been a loss of elasticity because she's put on weight and then drastically lost it again. 'If she stays this thin until her 40s she may need a facelift, taking in the lower two-thirds of the face and the neck to remove the excess skin. She has good cheekbones which will act like scaffolding to some extent. But if she loses too much fat from her cheeks then she will have a "hollow" look, which is also ageing.'

Skin

Harley Street skin specialist Dr Patrick Bowler says: 'Victoria has suffered from acne and her skin shows scarring. A stronger medical dermabrasion (a kind of crystal-based exfoliation) might be helpful. But its use on active acne can produce more inflammation. 'For acne-prone complexions, any skincare products should have a very mild Ph balance and ideally contain glycolic acid to exfoliate and clear bacteria, and salicylic acid to reduce redness.'

Tan

Kirsty Jobson, SAKS salon hair and beauty expert, says: 'It's obvious that Victoria uses fake tan. Firstly, she is naturally pale-skinned yet has an orange hue that doesn't look right. 'There are also visible signs of a build-up. The chemicals in fake tan are known to dry out the skin, so continuous application would increase the signs of ageing in certain areas prone to lines and creases, such as around the eye area, neck, hands and feet.'

Hands

Mr Gaitanis says: 'Once women reach their 20s, skin begins to lose elasticity and yo-yo dieting will make it sag and thin. This is true of Victoria's hands - the veins are so prominent that they show through the skin. Her hands look much older than she does. 'It is possible to inject fat into the back of the hands to hide the veins with extra padding, but as you need to use your own fat to do this and Victoria barely has any, it may be difficult.'

Shoes

Brave though it is to board a yacht in a pair of kebab-skewer heels - as Posh attempted to do recently - there is a time and a place for everything. And now that Kate Moss has swopped her Manolo's for flat ballet slippers, and everyone from Sadie Frost to Jennifer Aniston is wearing understated Birkenstocks, Posh's choice in footwear appears passe. High heels worn during daylight hours - and with jeans - are not what you'd call cutting edge.
