Web errors spell trouble for Education Minister

As Minister for School Standards, Stephen Twigg claims to know a thing or two about education. However, his knowledge of spelling appears less than impressive.

Articles appearing on his website - written in the first person - talk proudly of the day he was appointed a government "minster" and of disturbing figures from the "Commision for Health Improvement".

The 38-year-old Labour MP for Enfield Southgate also misspells "received" as "recieved" and "possible" as "possibe". The mistakes were spotted by constituent Jeffrey Zinkin as he read about Mr Twigg's stance on local health services. One paragraph reads: "Chase Farm [hospital] will always be special to me as I was born there. In the latest figures published by the Commision [sic] for Health Improvement, Chase Farm has recieved [sic] a one-star rating out of a possibe [sic] three."

Mr Zinkin says he was horrified by the blunders, adding: "What sort of example is this for an education minister to be setting?"

Mr Twigg declined to comment on whether he had written the articles himself or why the errors had not been spotted.

A spokesman at the Department for Education said: "Any corrections necessary to the website will be made straight away."
