'The sun had damaged my skin'

Amanda Otto, 45, is a trained psychologist and sells her own range of beauty products. She lives in Colchester with her husband. They have two children, aged 21 and 19.

My husbandis a cosmetic physician and he had already treated lots of people by the time we decided I should have Isolagen in December last year. I had about 20 little injections all over my face which sounds painful but they are very superficial.

My mouth and jowls were my main worry and my skin was looking a bit like orange peel with large open pores. Now the pores are tighter and the texture seems to be changing on my entire face. My husband is very proud of his handiwork.

I wanted to look good for our 25th wedding anniversary in June. We had discussed my having a facelift when I'm 50, but I don't think I'll need it now, as I'm expecting this to last from seven to ten years. I've had Botox before and wasn't really happy with it. It does seems to wear off quite quickly.

I grew up in South Africa so my skin has suffered quite a lot of sun damage. When I was 40, things just started to fall apart. I've spent hundreds of pounds on expensive beauty products but none of them stopped the visible signs of ageing.

'It's made me a happier person'

Hind Streamer, 47, a PA, lives with her husband in Pinner, Middlesex. She has one grown-up daughter.

I don't mind lines on my face - they're natural. What bothered me was that a couple of years ago, people started to say I looked sad. I wasn't - but the wrinkles and the sagging were making me look that way. And to be honest, the comments were starting to make me feel that way. Now people ask if I've just come back from a holiday all the time.They don't notice the lines have gone, they just think I look healthier and happier.

I have tried Restylane in the past, but it wore off after about three months and you could tell I'd had something done. Isolagen looks more natural. I had it a year ago, after reading about it, and it still seems to be working. I had it under my eyes, around the mouth, in my forehead.

I couldn't see why I should worry about injecting my own cells. Besides, I knew that 1,200 people had had it done in the States and there hadn't been any negative side effects.

My husband was a bit worried about my doing it at first but after a while, he'd look at me every morning and notice I was looking better and better. I started to see a difference after about four weeks.

I can honestly say that looking this good has made me a happier person.

Lynn Whitley, 50, runs an exhibition and conference organising company. She lives in Chiswick, West London, with her husband and their 11-year-old son.

I'm a working mum who doesn't have time to obsess about her appearance. I've not had surgery before because I'd never been that desperate to look good. But when I heard about Isolagen, it sounded completely different - and natural. I had a deep furrow between my eyebrows and it was getting deeper. I don't especially mind looking my age but this line made me look angry all the time. I had the treatment last spring and it wasn't at all painful - the plastic surgeon used an anaesthetic cream. Afterwards, the line seemed to fill out almost straight away but that could just have been swelling.

A few days later the line was back and then very gradually, ever since then it's disappeared. I'm not worried about the long-term effects. They're my cells so I don't see why there could be a problem.

The cost is the only downside I can see. I don't spend lots of money on beauty products or treatments - I think I've had one massage my entire life - so to spend £2,500 on my face was a lot.

But I'm glad I don't look cross any more!

'This will save me a fortune'

Lucinda Ellery, '50 plus', lives in Richmond, Surrey. She runs her own beauty salon, Lucinda Ellery Hair Solutions in London. She is divorced with three grown-up children.

Over the past ten years I've had collagen and Restylane injections, which have been costing me £2,000 a year, liposuction and work on my stomach for three bad Caesarean scars. I'm false from head to toe but I work with some wonderful looking girls (Holly Vallance and the Sugababes have all been to my salon for hair extensions) so want to be happy with my looks.

When I heard about Isolagen, I was immediately interested. It sounded natural and would save me a fortune. I was the first British woman to have the treatment nearly 18 months ago - with 50 surgeons watching - but I wasn't scared. What could be frightening about having your own cells put back in?
