Will Brooks, the council's cabinet member for housing, said there were "very few seven-bedroom properties" available. As a result a private landlord was paid £12,458 a month in housing benefit, more than double the market rate. The most expensive cost £4,500 a month, £7,500 less than it costs taxpayers now, and has eight bedrooms.
