Yet, for many young Britons, the great funeral today will be the first funeral they have ever seen, apart, perhaps, from Princess Diana's; that coffin, draped in the Queen Mother's personal standard, past which tens of thousands of people have walked, will have been for many of them the first coffin they ever saw at first hand. What a wonderful thing it would be if these obsequies made us all - republicans, royalists, atheists, religious believers - reconsider our attitude to funerals.
